Roughs and Unfinished Experiments with Different Styles

A while back a did a few roughs just playing with style. I may not finish them so I'm putting them here:

Inspired by style of ancient icons

Looking a little into pale skin tones. Inspired much the Virgin and Child from the Melun diptych by Jean Fouquet, hence the indistinguisable blue and red blobby faces in the background.

Virgin and Child by Jean Fouquet, c1450

To me it is clear Fouquet was boldly showing off his mastery with this painting. The red abd blue angels are so striking yet also a little unnerving. I was admitedly very drawn to the highly sexual nature of this portrayal of the Virgin as it not only demonstrates those old features of beauty Snow White is described (pale skin) but it is also a tale that deals with feminity and budding sexuality.
